I have read and reviewed several of Florence Wetzel’s books and I'm always impressed by her ability to captivate me, no matter which genre she explores. This time, she invites us into a murder mystery infused with jazz tones and a charmingly nostalgic atmosphere.
When journalist Virginia Farrell interviews the reclusive jazz singer Betty Brown, she discovers that Betty possesses invaluable recordings from Monk and Coltrane’s legendary 1957 performance. Shortly after the interview, Betty is found murdered, and the tapes have vanished without a trace. Determined to uncover the truth, Virginia—along with her quick-witted roommate—dives into a tangled murder investigation, where the world of music holds more than just melodies.
Dashiki is an engaging and charming mystery novel. The short chapters make it hard to put down. The setting feels authentic and oozes jazz, largely thanks to the vivid dialogue and well-researched details that create a strong sense of time and place. Florence Wetzel masterfully crafts an inviting atmosphere where music and mystery intertwine in a captivating way. Her unique sense of humor adds an extra spark, enhancing the reading experience.
A warm recommendation for anyone who enjoys cozy mysteries with a touch of jazz!
